Retro Series

This series of artifacts explores how technology can evoke nostalgia by revisiting the tactile interactions and “hit-to-fix” moments that were once common with older devices. By focusing on these interactions, the project reflects on how far we’ve come with today’s smart and stable technology, while questioning whether we’ve lost some of the appreciation we once had for our devices. The series investigates how our relationship with technology has shifted over time, sparking reflection on the evolution of user interactions.

Telaaavision
Interactive Dummy TV

This installation captures the retro feeling of hitting old TVs to fix issues, a behavior once akin to black magic. Telaaavision plays with this memory by presenting an interactive old TV. Users experience clearer images from a distance, but as they move closer, the image becomes blurrier. Attempts to “fix” the clarity by hitting the TV trigger a glitch effect instead, creating a playful tension between user and machine. This “fight” for image clarity evokes nostalgia while imbuing the old TV with a lively and interactive character.

Raaadio
Interactive Dummy Radio

An extension of Telaaavision, Raaadio captures the nostalgic act of hitting old machines to interact with them. This radio box produces white noise when on standby, inviting users to hit the side of the box to switch between channels and content. The interaction is designed to bring back the tactile, imperfect moments of engagement with technology, evoking both nostalgia and reflection on how these interactions shaped our appreciation of older devices.
